Sardinia, Italy

We took an overnight ferry to Cagliari, and woke in the morning to views of the pretty, coastal city that seemed to consist entirely of peach or pink stone buildings. We passed through the customs and sniffer dog check with flying colours, and the gaurds seemed pretty excited to meet some real Kiwi's, and were particularly taken with our Silver Fern bumper sticker! We headed on our way along the southern coast and caught our first glimpses of real Sardinian beaches; all vibrant blue water, hot sandy beaches and some pretty good surf breaks that Gavin eyed up enviously. We explored the old ruins of Nora, and then headed on our way to Montevecchio, further up the west coast.
We managed to organise accomodation via a tourist office at an agriturismo run by an old Italian couple who didn't speak one word of english, and insisted on talking to us for great lengths of time in Italian. They were accompanied by a friendly little fluffy dog who loved to have a pat, and came running up to us tail wagging, all excited, but when you did pat him he seemed to tremble in fear! He appeared to like us all the same...
We eventually came to an understanding with the Italian 'Mama' who ran the farmstead, and she showed us to a cosy little room, and later dropped by to give us some fresh baked lemon torte for supper.
In the morning we headed for Porto Pollo; a kiters or windsurfers heaven. We found accomodation at a campground that is on an island jutting out from the coast, connected only by a small sandspit.
I'll let Gavin take it from here..... :)
