Positano, Italy

After our incident with the car break in, (The Italian Renault guys were a great help and a laugh to see in action) we headed straight to Positano for the night, down on the Almalfi coast. We arrived after dark, and struggled a bit with the random Napoli signage and drivers - Definitely the keenest bunch to risk life and limb to get somewhere a few seconds earlier than anyone else...

We stayed in a cool old building that had been converted into a hostel. They had a little pet puppy called Alex who was a little terror with an overshot bottom jaw so he looked like he had a problem with you all the time, who kept us entertained through breakfast. We then realised that above our room perched up high on a ledge amongst the trees was a young stray mother cat with at least 3 or 4 little 2 week old kittens. I demanded we "save them" somehow, and harassed the hostel owners to try to get them to help bring them down. We were told the handyman would get them down later on in the day, so Gavin dragged me away to have a look through positano, past a small grocery store where we bought some sardines and a tin of cat food. The small Italian lady who worked there looked worried and made meow noises at us - she clearly thought these crazy tourists were going to eat cat food for lunch.

Positano is a slightly busier and wealthier version of the cinque terre. It's very touristy, with every shop somehow trying to cater to the massive influx of english tourists they must get every year. We had some lovely brushetta for lunch and wandered the small streets, before catching the bus back up to our hostel overlooking the top of the town.

The kittens were still up there, but now there was a bowl of food near them (I'd been beaten to it) and the hostel owner was back, and reassured us that she had been keeping an eye on them for a while now, as had a few of the other nearby locals - they were in good hands.
But now at least I am ready with my cat food for the next strays we find that need to be 'saved' :-)

We headed back that arvo to Napoli to get our car ferry to Sardinia. This was definitely the most hair rasing driving we've had to undertake - Gavin loved every minute of it, but I locked the doors and refused to leave the car... It's known for it's shady characters (who we saw a good sample of), and the term 'road rules' definitely doesn't apply here.

**Gavin - I'm clearly going to have to re-sit my "don't drive all over the road like a crazy Italian" drivers licence when I get back to NZ... :-) **

Sardinia here we come...

Hello Jennifer and Gavin! I have now mastered using the printer and to my delight I am now able to print off some of your pictures! Sonya may very soon be aware that her paper supply is diminishing.:) I agree that the Trevi fountain is so beautiful and its quite magical.I tossed my coin in also and made a wish when I was there and it reminded me of the film and song"Three Coins in the Fountain" which I saw when I was a child. Lots of love Mum and the moggie gang.
